Korean reaches 80 kg final
SYDNEY, (Reuters) - South Korea's Kim Kyong-hun
dominated for the third successive fight to move into the final of the 80 kg class in the
Olympic debut sport of taekwondo on Saturday.
Kim posted a 7-3 victory over Pascal Gentil of France and will go for the gold medal
against Australian Daniel Trenton, a 6-2 winner over Milton Castro of Colombia.
Taekwondo, an ancient martial art which resembles karate but focuses on kicks with bare
feet, is Korea's national sport. The Koreans have picked up two golds and a silver in the
three weight classes in which they have competed so far.
In the women's 67 kg division, China's Chen Zhong beat Adriana Carmona of Venezuela
8-6 to move into the final against Russian Natalia Ivanova, who downed Natasa Vezmar
of Croatia.
Win or lose Chen will score China's first taekwondo medal.
